Temporary solutions to solve slow accessing Facebook in Malaysia

Recently, after earthquake and Tsunami happen at Japan, you may having difficulty and slowness accessing Facebook.

This is because it is most likely caused by one of the hop servers at “facebook-10G.hkix.net []” which located at Hong Kong Internet Exchange.

I found a temporary solution to fix the speed issue with Facebook.

All you need to do is just do the following:

How to Edit Hosts File:

If you have UAC turned on, kindly turn it off.
1.1 Windows XP/Vista/7 User:

1. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
2. Open hosts file with notepad.exe
3. Add the following at the last line with:    www.facebook.com
4. Save.
5. Open your browser, key in www.facebook.com.
6. Enjoy the normal superfast speed!

Your hosts file should look like this:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
# For example:
#  rhino.acme.com # source server
#   x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# localhost
# ::1 localhost  www.facebook.com

If you are getting error in Windows 7

If you are getting errors, go to Start –> Control Panel –> User Accounts
Click Change User Account Control Settings
Set to Never Notify.
Save Settings and Restart PC. Then you should be able to edit your hosts file. 🙂
